Introduction
IT experts and analysts estimate, semiconductors will become $400 billion industry by the year 2005 - 06. Companies like IBM, Intel, Motorola, Wipro, Texas, SGS-Thomson, Cirrus Logic, Synopsis, Mentor Graphics and Philips to name a few have already set up their design center's in India. This has resulted in a growing demand for trained manpower in VLSI design, Embedded Systems and Networking. To meet this ever increasing demand for trained manpower, the University of Pune, Department of Electronic Science and Integrated Circuit and Information Technology (ICIT) Pvt. Ltd., Pune have come up with a Certificate Courses in VLSI Design, Embedded System Design, Computer Hardware & Networking and Diploma in Advanced Digital System Design.

The VLSI, Embedded era has seen the evolution of standard design strategies resulting in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and Real Time Systems. The microcontroller based real time systems will be the futuristic career. Though there exists a wealth of Intellectual Property (IP) that is available from numerous sources, the demand for the young designers equipped with in-depth knowledge of VLSI design tools, Embedded systems is ever increasing.

The course consists of extensive laboratory sessions supported by informative lectures. The novel theme of the course is work experience on live projects.
